Call Jehovah thy salvation. James Montgomery* (1771-1854). This was first published in Montgomery’s Songs of Zion (1822}. He left it out of The Christian Psalmist (1825) but restored it in Original Hymns (1853) (JJ, p. 200). It was based on Psalm 91, and in 1853 it was headed ‘God’s merciful Guardianship of his People. – Ps xci.’ It had five stanzas: Call Jehovah thy salvation, Rest beneath the Almighty’s shade, In his secret habitation Dwell, and never be dismay’d: There no tumult shall alarm thee, Thou shalt dread no hidden snare; Guile nor violence can harm thee; In eternal safeguard there.
