Annie Herbert

HERBERT, Annie (Annie Herbert Barker). b. Leon, New York State, 1844;  d. San Rafael, California, 21 January 1932. She was born in a small town in Cattaraugus County on the western edge of New York State. She married her cousin, James Barker, Jr., but is more often known as a hymn writer by her maiden name. She was a teacher: she and her husband must have been courageous and intrepid young people, for they worked for a time with the pioneers in Meagher County in what was then the remote state of Montana, perhaps as teachers.
