Allein zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ
Allein zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ. Konrad Huber* (1507-1577).
This is found with other hymns by Huber in Ein New Auserlesen Gesangbüchlein (Strasbourg, 1545); but it was attributed by Wackernagel to Johannes Schnesing and printed at Das Deutsche Kirchenlied III. 176 (one of several versions, pp. 174-6). Wackernagel notes that this version of the text, entitled ‘Ein Bettlied zu Christo unserem einigen Heiland’ (‘a prayer-hymn to Christ our only Saviour’), was credited to Huber (or ‘C. Humbert’) in the 1560 Gros Kirchen Gesangbuch. This has been accepted by EG, which added a doxology, ‘Ehr sei Gott in dem höchsten Thron’ (DDK III. 175) from a Nürnberg book of 1540.
