Maltbie Davenport Babcock
BABCOCK, Maltbie Davenport. b. Syracuse, New York, 3 August 1858; d. Naples, Italy, 18 May 1901. Babcock graduated from Syracuse University in New York (1879), and Auburn Theological Seminary in the same city (1882), excelling not only in his general studies but also in organ, piano, violin, and athletics. He became pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Lockport, New York (1882-85); and the Brown Memorial Presbyterian Church in Baltimore, Maryland (1885-99). In Baltimore he was especially popular with students from Johns Hopkins University, but he ministered to people from all walks of life.
