Come, let us sing of a wonderful love. Robert Walmsley* (1831-1905).
This hymn was included in the author’s collection Sacred Songs for Children of All Ages (1900). It was probably written, like most of the hymns in that collection, for the Manchester Sunday School Union, in which Walmsley was very active, and its first publication may have been as a leaflet for one of the Union’s Whitsuntide festivals. The hymn quickly became popular and appeared in The Primitive Methodist Sunday School Hymnal (1901) and many later juvenile and adult hymnals. It was originally written for tune 488 in J.
